999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors is a murder mystery Sci-Fi visual novel video game from 2010. It was developed by Spike Chunsoft and published in America by Aksys Games. The game stars the main protagonist named Junpei. He is your every day average college student who is living a normal life. Then suddenly he is woken up by an explosion and bangs his head on the ceiling. When he wakes up he immediately realizes things are wrong. He isn’t in his apartment. He is in what looks like the cabin of a ship. Very confused he looks around and realizes he is wearing a watch with the number 5 on it. It is completely bolted on his arm and in no way can remove it. He struggles to take it off and soon realizes there is no point in trying. After trying to regain his thoughts it suddenly happens. Water starts pouring into the cabin and is slowly rising. He needs to use his wits to solve the first puzzle of the game and escape. This brings you to the first puzzle portion of the game simply titled Find The Way Out. While solving the first puzzle Junpei is able to remember what he can before this all happened. In his flashback he comes back into his apartment and notices the window is open. He assumes he must have left it open when he left and shrugs it off. He goes to shut it when IT happens. He sees him from behind. He sees a man in a smoke mask and a black coat. Startled he turns around and realizes he is being knocked out from a white smoke. This brings us back to when he woke up. Looking in the mirror he thinks to himself what happened to me? Why am I here? After all these questions and after solving the puzzle he opens the door and gets washed away to the main hall where he meets 8 other people. Who are they? Where am I? What am I doing here? Most importantly who is the man in the smoke mask? I will write more about the story next time to keep you guessing. This interesting story is just beginning.
