Dead Space is a science-fiction horror game developed by Visceral Games and published by EA. The game was released in 2008 on consoles and PC to widespread acclaim.
Dead Space takes place in open space, many years into the future. Humanity has extracted and exhausted all natural resources on Earth, leaving it uninhabitable. In this time, humanity developed a method of material extracting by splitting asteroids and planets into multiple pieces.
The flagship of the mineral mining expedition, USG Ishimura, however suddenly falls off radar and communication goes silent. Mining command dispatches a crew from a nearby ship in order to investigate. This is where the game takes its signature dark turn.
The crew’s ship is destroyed, leaving them stranded aboard the Ishimura. Most of the crew is killed by alien creatures known as Necromorphs. The player controls one of the last known survivors – Isaac Clarke. Isaac’s mission is to scout the ship and search for any survivors that may still be on board. As the player wanders the ship, they will encounter Necromorphs stalking the hallways. It is up to the player to choose their weapons of choice, as swapping between them may mean the difference between life or death.
Final word: Dead Space is worth a playthrough if science-fictions meets horror is up your alley. The game does a great job of keeping players on edge without resorting to cheap jump scare surprises.
